Van Rijk Estate Jewellers
Classic Shopify with a deep-green, jewellery-carousel hero.
A Shopify ecommerce build for a family-run estate jewellery institution — built to give serious collectors and curious newcomers equal footing with Toronto's largest pre-owned luxury inventory.
The Brief
Van Rijk Estate Jewellers has been buying, selling, and authenticating pre-owned luxury watches and fine jewellery in Toronto since 1985. Under owner Alex Van Rijk, the store has built Toronto's largest selection of pre-owned luxury and branded timepieces and jewellery — Rolex, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Audemars Piguet, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari — with inventory that ranges from 1940s vintage pieces to modern references carrying box and papers. That depth of stock, and the expertise required to curate and authenticate it, is the product. The challenge was building an ecommerce experience worthy of it.
Bryka built vanrijkestatejewellers.com on Shopify to give the store a digital presence that matches its physical reputation. The brief was catalogue depth meets white-glove experience: a site where a discerning collector can browse seriously, a first-time estate buyer can understand the difference between a Rolex with and without papers, and anyone interested in selling, trading, or enquiring can reach Alex's team without friction — all while the store's 40-year track record of authenticity and transparency comes through in every product page.

A Catalogue Built For Collectors Who Know What They're Looking For
Estate jewellery ecommerce has a catalogue problem that generic Shopify themes don't solve. A buyer searching for a Rolex Daytona wants to filter by reference number, movement generation, dial variant, and whether box and papers are included — not just "brand: Rolex." A collector evaluating a 1960s Cartier bracelet wants to know its condition grade, provenance notes, and what the store can tell them about its history. We built Van Rijk's catalogue architecture around the metadata that actually matters to serious buyers: condition, era, reference, inclusions, and price — with enough product page depth that each piece gets a proper introduction rather than a stock description and three photos.

Provenance Is The Product — So We Designed For It
In estate jewellery, the story of a piece is often half its value. A Patek Philippe with original paperwork, dial, and bracelet is a fundamentally different object than the same reference without them — and a buyer who understands that distinction will pay accordingly, if the site explains it clearly. We built product templates that give Van Rijk's team room to tell that story: condition notes, reference context, acquisition details, and what comes with the piece. For first-time estate buyers, this transparency is reassuring. For experienced collectors, it's the standard they expect. In both cases, it replaces the uncertainty that keeps buyers from completing a purchase on a site they've never visited before.
Selling And Trading, Not Just Buying
A meaningful share of Van Rijk's business comes from clients who want to sell or trade pieces from their own collection. That flow needed to be as considered as the buying experience — not a generic "contact us" form, but a structured enquiry that invites sellers to describe what they have, establishes the store's credentials for fair assessment, and sets the right expectation for the process. We built a buy/sell/trade section that serves this audience directly: enough information to establish trust, a frictionless way to start the conversation, and clear signals that Van Rijk's team knows what they're looking at — which, after 40 years in the market, they do.
